Camping at Sandbanks

If you don’t know Sandbanks Provincial Park, you’re missing out on something special. It’s only two and a half hours from Toronto. The beach is gorgeous and Prince Edward County is a pleasure to visit. We spent ten days there, half the time was just us grownups, the second half included various kids and family. In accordance with my own unsolicited advice, I let my twelve year-old bring a friend, always a good move.

We visited wineries, and enjoyed local wines and fresh local foods every day. It took us a while to find the best places, but once we did … yum! There is a great roadside stand run by the Vader family near Picton. And Laundry Farms has the best corn in the county, according to many. Our taste buds certainly weren’t arguing with that assessment. Good wineries included Hardie, Huff Estates, and Sandbanks, but there are plenty of others.

We were blessed with excellent weather, but, of course, no camping trip is complete without a little rain, and we got some, too.

It got wet on the weekend ...

After the rain, we rejigged things a bit and were in good shape for the next little bit of wet.

Every morning, and most evenings, we grownups walked the full length of the beach – 50 minutes total. It was absolutely lovely: you could walk in the soft sand, the hard sand by the water, or splash along in the shallows.
