Visiting the CN Tower
We’re having a wonderful week downtown while my youngest son attends the drama camp at the Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People. Yesterday we went to the CN Tower. You know: that place that we locals only ever visit when we have someone visiting from out of town. Well, we had no visitors, we just went anyway.
As we went up the elevator, we could see the Blue Jays game going on below us. From the observation deck, we could see that one team was getting a lot of home runs. Unfortunately it turned out to be the Yankees doing the damage.
What a view it is from the top! We could have stayed for hours, as we slowly identified various places in endless vista below us. We could make out Queen Street stretching far out to the Beaches, and above it we could see the line of buildings where Bloor and the Danforth are. Countless sailing boats dotted the water below us, and a groups of kayaks were spread out like coloured pencils someone had dropped on the floor. We watched planes taking off from the Island Airport and climbing into the sky – below us!
We spent a long time up there, and watched as the sun dipped below the horizon. It more pretty fast once it gets to that point. Then we went down to the main level for a last moment on top of the city.
We had hot dogs from the vendors on Front Street, and went on a wild “ride” at the bottom of the tower that turned out to be a lot of fun. It was a lovely evening out, one those evenings where it’s just great to be a dad.
